Batmama's Northpoint Notes #17

Being finals week for Simmons College, I turned in my last piece today then retooled it for youse guys. Not being lazy, as I enjoyed writing it. I re-fabricated the syntax and gave her a remix with reviews and such. Rather than plop it in Essays which I'll do in the academic form for sure, I'm hoping you dig the messages for the masses and I'd LOVE to hear something, being plumb hangry for feedback. I want to write and be better. I do it daily and passionately. Not whoring up praise, no-siffer. I want information to improve with. Seriously, lemme have it, Buster(ette) - I can take it like a man! Now, let's talk about doctors and lawyers, God and country, what makes a good dope fiend, prison minutia naturally and the expected record shop and superhero gab-bage.

Secularism has been the majority topic of SOC 203:Sociology of Religion, unsurprising for a science class exploring its sometimes parent, cousin, or step-sibling depending on who's talking. Both explain our cosmos and ourselves within it. Maybe one explains the existence of the other but that might be construed as arrogant to somebody believing in only one. This same relationship exists in describing the complexity of HOW they're related, not unlike some inconvenient inbreeding scenarios.

We've dealt with these conflicts since Alexander the Great's teacher 384-322 BC, Aristotle, went from pupil of Plato to spiritual erector of the Western university, what Moses is to Temple or Jesus to Church. The halcyon version where critical thought was the overarching dogma of dusty shelves became his legacy. 2026's digital dynasty resembles his executioners who laid sacrifices to altars of Athena, Zeus, and Apollo, running him through with swords for asking so many questions. He laughed at them that day, knowing right from wrong.

In today's Tabernacle, the greatest wrong is observing polarities. Citation of crime is criminal. True crime is an illness making the perpetrator a true victim - dead bodies and ruined innocence are mere symptoms. Why? I can point my finger at two factions for American decline as global superpower, our devastated moral fortitude, and engendering of communal warfare. Dual professions have eroded our nation radically and expeditiously since the 1990s - psychology/psychiatry and the legal Leviathan.

Currently we've got an Executive Branch led by a rare non-lawyer aside from the Texas business-titan Bush's and the movie star in the '80s who held open those Oval doors for their corporate poker buddies. Not coincidentally I'll wager uncanny levels of vitriol began before our current entered his campaign due to this. For the same duration all three branches were almost intrinsically barristers. An associate of mine in prison, a Black Muslim legal aide notably expressed his approval of today's POTUS stemming from how he "doesnt even see red tape". I asked if he believed the constant racism claims who as if reading the rear of our first-lady's coat responding with hand wave "I don't care, do you?"

In the '90's frivolous lawsuits restructured America. From product labeling and packaging to insurance rates wreaking havoc on businesses nationwide, litigiousness became the essence of "our" capitalism. Living in Holland in '98, a noticeable and refreshing difference was the absence of this burden. Entire families in rusty Ferris Wheel cars, giggling kids riding the handlebars of bikes careening through traffic like America in the 60s, and grown men resolving disputes bare-chested and -fisted on the sidewalk. Expatriates I met blamed lawyers too for trading our birthplace's exciting and envied soul for lucre. The only people who prospered from this culture-shift were lawyers with generally unremarkable payers, like an obese Californian threatening to sue Olaf, my Dutch coworker, for all the misspellings and gibberish of his US company-aimed resume'. Luckily this kindhearted fellow with teeth suitable for opening oil cans was clueless to the meanings of a cannonade of obscenities and lawsuit threats hurled at him. I informed with my hands and broken Nederlands how moronic the agitated party was, believing overseas legal precedent would occur for a 10 guilder ($20) document service.

tawana brawley.jpg

Unscrupulous behavior from the BAR swallows the land. Al Sharpton sculpted a name in Civil Rights representing Tawana Brawley, a Black woman falsely charging gang-rape on five White policemen. Her attorney lied blatantly to America without trace of future apology on ABC News, promising nonexistent conclusive proof of her attack. Meanwhile five innocent men and their families laid firebombed in the court of public opinion, and another massive hate-crime hoax coerced the country into an anti-law enforcement mindset, seen systemically racist casting doubt on genuine cases and legitimate sexual assaults. As for Reverend Al, millions in revenue as an attorney, speaker, radio personality, and undeserved icon of latter-day civil rights. This doused flaming mutual racial acrimony with gasoline, and many arent aware this happened nor that it turned out fallacious. Porn-star turned autobiographer Stormy Daniels' attorney Michael Avenatti whom "The View" co-hostess Ana Navarro (who curiously calls herself Conservative despite evidence of her career as a supermodel being more abundant) once lauded as "the second coming" and numerous pundits deemed a worthy candidate for Commander-and-Chief in 2024 rots in prison without release after embezzling various clients including Daniels and Nike - a shyster in the deepest sense that totally could have reached red-button status thanks to an incredibly disastrous court - public opinion again - on his greed-based "against" purely.

â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹Corruption runs rampant as lawyers design and construct frameworks for it. Their networks hold office to (usually) the top. The backlash on an outsider from objectification: our current president declared that America's epidemic level of autism juxtaposed against other nations was unacceptable. Applying critical thought, I cannot argue and must ask: why WOULD anyone? He offered no dereliction in other objectives and issues, nor indifference to them with something gravely impacting our nations future. The department responsible for such issues reported an uptick in Tylenol usage among the pregnant. The product's manufacturer while not admitting culpability recommended not ingesting during gestation. A significant crowd ascribed themselves legal team mentality attacking the entire venture. Videos began appearing online of women intentionally endangering their unborn babies to show indifference or rebellion to the study, wolfing down pills by the fistful.

This nuclear psychosis is a derivative, I will posit, of the "lawyer-ing" of the US. Starting with the most-watched communal event in history - the O.J. Simpson trial whose celebrity attorneys brought us 21st century entertainments evolved Kardashians plus the resultant decades-spanning "Law and Order" franchise, Americans metamorphosed into legal ideologues who argue for or against everything. Admitting the pain reliever study meritorious (and the Middle East peacemaking Abraham Accords too, perhaps) while assessing individually the behaviors and other policies of our leader is unacceptable, as the "team" never clinically observes the salient qualities of the "opposition". Any notion of political theatre as an intellectual pursuit died with this immersion. Now its an arena event with a "reality" injection for the algorithm and corresponding outlets. Think Kardashians, like Chloe and Chris, the legacy of Robert, with Kim herself passing the BAR in California. Clarence Darrow and Perry Mason are deader than Dr. Frasier Crane shouldve been left for.

Worse, our enemy has a behemoth tag-team partner. Growing equally massive in the Nineties with ubiquity is the psychological field. Returning from my year abroad in 1999, TV was awash in ads for medicines like Zoloft. The country ran to psychotropics (and obscenely oversized vehicles) for relieving universal malaise/unease. I level some blame on the previous industry for the vitriolic, snide, and combative morays it contributed to, making this seem tenable.

teens-cannabis.jpg

Unheard numbers of folks on ADD/ADHD medications arrived overnight too. This phenomenon is simple to explain. In my 1970's childhood, scientists claimed kids growing up with TV encouraged different brains altogether. Flash forward two decades and everybody needed a pill to read an entire page with recollection. After that came video games, internet, smartphones, and multiple devices with streaming platforms. The result is TikTok and two-minute clips designed for the contemporary mind-scape. Weed, meth, blow, and painkilling opioids particularly emulate frontal lobe awakening of ADD meds like Adderall. Every fellow addict I survey agrees we are un-medicated or self-medicated sufferers of this syndrome. My story is the High School D-student turned college valedictorian with aspirations of higher decree and ambition because I learned that opioids before homework allowed me to unload the clown car I call a cranium successfully. Thus ends a lifetime of frustration beginning in second grade that "buckle down and pay attention" didn't scratch. What worked for you might not for your kid, a fully-formed person not a little you in training, being the lesson here. I'm on the MAT Program now, which distributes myself and many other frustrated sufferers Suboxone - synthetic opioid - daily. Hopefully what I told you promotes some understanding of the issue. When your offspring is having trouble and ADD meds are recommended don't be dismissive. You might spare them a trip to prison or Fentanyl overdose later.

ukranian girl.jpg

Long before this facet of the industry - the "study of the soul" brought a deeper plight - moral relativism. No one's a villain in their own mind, so everyone becomes someone's misunderstood victim. Perpetrators of hideous crimes suffer sicknesses, ergo inculpability for their violence against innocent citizens, most often women and children. Lawyers - mainly overeducated district attorneys - rebuff this situation with turnstiles at jails making our transportation systems, churches, schools, theaters, supermarkets, and Christmas parades dangerous. Dead bodies are only collateral damage in a lifespan of treatment.

jennifer_glass.jpg

Where does this clustered enemy spring from? The halls of academia. Try the piece "Why Aren't We Paying Attention? Religion and Politics in Everyday Life" (Glass, 2018), where author Jennifer Glass attempts to show diplomatic skills dealing with those outside her political schema under the assumption of intellectually impairment, needing this lady to explain their personal vistas to them.

The piece purports itself to be about White male Christians because profiling became voguish again in 2018, but is undeniably an anti-Administration piece that claims "all views are solely those of the author" but the preceding paragraph says it all: "This research was supported by a grant from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (Award #5R24 HD042849) to the Population Research Center at The University of Texas at Austin." Asserting my claim: "the central cleavage in contemporary American political and social life, that has given us a deeply divided nation and a razor-thin margin of victory for Donald Trump in 2016, tracks the deep divide between white conservative Christians and others...". The fix was in.

From there, Glass besmirches "American Exceptionalism" creeping back up the ivory walls. I would ask her why is this ONLY a cardinal sin here? How does the term "ethnocentrism" get lobbed at America, whom it seemingly got invented for when every country I've studied or set foot in believes their way is best to little complaint ESPECIALLY from its own residents. Many grow tired of personal shame being required for a reputable Masters. Even the tolerant Netherlands extricates Frenchmen from their country if their papers expire. The French, we know, are notoriously White, so Hollandites aren't labeled racists. Unfortunately, Mexico inconvenienced us without being the same. Anyone realizing sovereignty is necessary to America earns the scarlet R. Academics like Glass unfortunately speak without benefit of life experience, assuming the worst of others with un-nuanced sensationalist "studies" that devolve rather than progress.

So determined to smash the opposition, Jennifer, the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute, and Oxford University Press who published this propaganda masquerading as think-piece don't apprehend the real criminals who provided them their raison d'tre - the legal/psychiatric complex who demolished Ernest Gellner's vision of economy-driven society.

ernest gellner.jpg

Sociologist Gellner's cultural paradigm held spokes of education and civic religion with the hub an economic core tethering all stratifications. Education is vastly important with students not being lobbed unfocused college degrees, but work meaningful within the individuals personal context. People of lesser advantage not being repeatedly set up for failure by being dropped into a collegiate experience devoid of empathy, but given a vocational one that makes them not only prosperous inside their communities and utilitarian in nature generates morale. Studies demonstrate the impoverished student without reference usually returns to their ghetto/holler worse for the experience. From my own, the stepping stones of growth - six careers within an adulthood - works. High School flunk-out to restaurant worker moving to two tours of trade school now valedictorian of the Associates class working on a Bachelors with eyes on a Masters, the intention of making inmates journalists, I not only attest to this systems efficacy but have lived it.

Glass and company manifested a piece that could easily be titled "How To Endure Talking To Those Less Enlightened Than We" with it's misunderstanding of nonacademic America and bizarre misbelief that the 2016 presidency was entirely due to White Christians encapsulates my observations magnificently. Inhabitants like myself of "Flyover" America heard numerous logical fiscal and policy-driven reasons for both elections. This dismissal as such demonstrates the needless contemporary vision of Aristotle's soul-descendant. Higher education should aim to objectively empower, not indoctrinate or worse extricate portions of our body politic. Certainly not adopt the attitude that faith makes someone automatically of deficient intelligence, as this denies the claimant the right to subjective reality, wherein they experience something supernatural, giving them purpose. It's certainly no less meaningful than someone devoting their existence to believing, preaching, and attempting to prove men can have babies. Academic judgement made against them unless they are directly calling for violence towards another party is unequivocal xenophobia, and hypocritical as such. Both deny basic science, period. My Libertine/Libertarian principles bristle at telling others how to spend their short time on Earth. Be authentic and don't make your choices other folks problems and we're straight.

Ribe_Domkirke_(Esbjerg_Kommune).ajb.jpg

In previous papers I have pointed to the high church attendance of Denmark, because it merits attention. This brand of cultural agnosticism from a vastly undecided population in an older and in some arenas wiser culture while in the same breath as I am not and will never be a lawyer I'll say wanting to keep my country the world's greatest. Our standard is coveted by would-be gate-crashers daily. When we step from our trainers - lawyers, therapists, and the insulated people who teach them, we may quietly look around and inside ourselves without distraction so answers arise. Maybe that's the essence of religion.

Ernest Gellnar's model seems entirely viable to me. The economy here in prison ties us all - Black, White, Mexican, Christian, Wiccan, and Satanist in solidarity over our contempt for Union Supply Group. They're our vendor for clothing, electronics, and foodstuffs, and if canteen fails the yard, the haves and have-nots worry all. No acrimony as we have common foes and goals weekly, with barter as the heart of incarceration.

America's current Administration is attempting to glue warring factions in the Middle East with financial ventures, rather than ideological rescues concerning property, following the cluster-model. This type of diplomacy could do big things like engineer women and girls in unthinkable places getting proper education if the Smith formula continues. We can see a world of marvels putting our prejudices from the defense/offense ethos under our beds forever.

Societies led by ideology are eternally at war, and the devoutly secular fall to greed, anarchy, and chaos. The constant defensiveness against nonexistent enemies within, rather than stirring our Melting Pot into glistening cream must end.

I'll end with the most significant passage from the Bible. It speaks to the broader problem, and gives the infallible solution. Knowing He's hours from brutal slaughter, Jesus tells His Apostles He has a new Commandment:

(John Chapter 13 Verse 34): That ye love one another as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

Can't do it without the music, People. 66 tracks in two weeks. Law, the addict life.

Mary Sho - "Runaway": Heaven knows I'm mad 'bout Mary, but this new crop kinda left me cold compared to ass-blistering tracks like "Ova", "Black Girls", and "Big Girls". Only two from "Should I Wake Up Now" achieved download status, and this one to my "Just Dropped" folder. Hopefully it's the sophomore slump The Go! Team suffered with the next platter giving me Saturday Night Palsy all week long. Still, I dug this track more after 10 listens than one...

The Go! Team featuring Nitty Scott - "Whammy-O": Speaking OF, this is a last year thing. I musta been in the hole or something. Scott's bratty, sassy, and brassy delivery breathes spunk into the machine, urbanizing the Team without gangsta-zation. Dope as it wants to be, youll feel stupid bad in a good way by owning it.

Charlie Pugh with Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins - "Love In Exile": Way over somewheres else, here's your button-up Honkey-Pop to woo to. Sweet and cuddly as those three names invoke, as catchy as we deserve for our limited time. I smoked some Doobie ("What a Fool Believes") immediately after hearing this, go do with that nug what you will...

"Flight Risk", "Flight Risqué", and "Hvnly" - Jenevieve: MY heap-topping soul singer from now, her plate finally dropped altogether after tortuously sitting in "tracks not available" limbo for months. With my rarely applied sobriquet "artist", a dreamy, sexy, soft-serve bomb-blast that elevates the milieu over counterparts like Coco and Kehalni with uncompromising cleverness, tonal variation, and sweet surprises the rest seem downright lazy by comparison to. Joy-worthy and already stuck in a delicious ear-worm spot in my hungry soul.

Lainey Wilson - " Heart Like a Truck": You'll see how much I love a motherfucker when I download nouveau country on their written request. Still catchy if disposable, a tad obvious but heartfelt. I put it behind "Refugee" by Petty and the Heartbreakers for a nice segue, then picture the person I'm growing old with and it works. Perfect soundtrack tune-age for your average hokey prison love story.

Soulsalito - Intastella: Happy accident, discovering this act one night blistered and getting retail therapy only available from the tablet. Girly vocals atop competent dancefloor pop, I'm reasonably sure I'll come back for seconds since I had issues picking my first.

THE WAYBACKS: PLEASANT RETRO SURPRISES THIS WEEK -

Rosie Vela - "Interlude" and "Magic Smile": What's the sound when Donald Fagen bangs a supermodel who it turns out CAN carry a tune in a bucket? Slick easy-listening Nirvana, Chummies. This beautiful lady's vocals honor their vessel. Robustly dreamlike, deep, sexy, and impossible to remain silent to, this record entered my life circa 1984 and I've sung these gems since. Steal it, Dan-O!

"Richivities" - Saweetie: Dunno how I missed this either, maybe it got added to the mix late by Suck-Your-Ass (Securus), our provider, but Ms. Weetie is my #1 Rap-unzel today. Getting the idea of hip-hop kinetics better than any peer man or woman, if her name's on it, I am too. Go grab this and twerk up on that wall.

"Thats a No-No" and "Top of the World" - Lynn Anderson: I entered a search blind and walked out a fan of a face I'd seen my life through. This lady's spunk, vocal charisma, and loveliness radiates through both tracks - one a Karen Carpenter cover giving the OG version a run for the dough. Check out this beautiful bombshell if you never, Pardner.

lynda carter durlan supergirl.jpg

Tablet TV: After a TWO YEAR wait thanks to "Woman of Tomorrow's" eminent release we got season two of the Melissa Benoit "Supergirl". I know, pitiful, right? You're in a time capsule reading this shit! Inform Governor Beshear about this cruel and unusual punishment. I only now found out that President Diana Prince is a Durlan like R.J. Brande from the Legion Of Superheroes, furthering the homage with Supes and Mon-El.

It got on my nerves with Ally McGrant's anti- "Make Earth Great Again" and Democratic punditry coupling that I.C.E. beaten into our skulls obviousness. Where's the metaphor for China sneaking lethal Fentanyl overdoses for 100's of 1000's of Americans including children via Meh-Hican cartels through the Southern border, Clarissa? C'mon, explain it all! No escaping some unsolicited opinion anymore, and often from somebody I like and work I otherwise enjoy. The remainder kicked ass. I adored the actresses particularly who played Miss Martian and Lena Luthor. I got pissed at Kara for not heading back for poor bestie LL to eat pot stickers and pizza, cry about Mon-El, and out herself as the Maid of Might to avoid catastrophe later. How I hate writers making lovable characters lame-asses to advance a plot.

Zachary_Levi.webp

"Chuck" season one, a peculiar selection, made the tablet this week. To fill the girl-in-a-cape sized hole in my life I yanked episode one up, and to my delight enjoyed the bedtime fare. Found a posse of investors today so we'll pass our pads and alternate purchasing chapters so I don't have to break the bank at Monte Carlo like "Jane the Motherfucking Virgin". $300 I spent on the stylish crack-like American telenueva, enjoying the bejeezus out of it, but Christ Almighty never again.

OK I broke my index for art so I'm leaving y'all go for a minute while I heal up. Go find a f(r)iend on Batty's List or go make yourself a Peanut Butter Pie with my cheap lockdown recipe before you split, Hon. 'Mama loves YOU!

PS - I also LOVE and/or respect Donna Thornton Greene, John Helmuth, Lesley Cayton, Keith Feck, Ginny Southgate, Jody Leake, Lisa from Four Rivers, and numerous other lawyers and headshrinkers who've aided me and my associates. This is no indictment of man (or broad) but machine.
