Dr. Danzy - I pre-apologize for the length of my response, but the request elicited an answer of girth. Also, the paper it generated might seem provocative, but as you and I have not interfaced, I would like to ensure you that I submit this with utmost respect for your station, as I'm sure you do mine. Thank you.
Race is absolute from evidence garnered professionally and statistically reflecting ebbs and flows ascribing no superiority to a particular family. The notion that melanin distribution is our lone difference is disturbing in it's obtuse nature. Detriment in the 21st century presented by this facet of humanity is cultivated by those obsessed with it regardless of stripe, and their choke-hold on progress.
Becoming a Massage Therapist attending Lexington Healing Arts Academy in 2004, I held two jobs during nine years in this field with Black clienteles. Talking to peers of the two prominent races, we discussed the differences in Caucasians and clients of color: tissue/bone density related to pressure resistance, elevation of muscle striations, and pain tolerance of patients to the Chiropractors we served, trace-less of Ethnocentrism. Human bodies were our discipline and celebration. This detail should not be suppressed, but researched and explored. Ideologues might fear this being misused to assume Eugenic lower intellectual function of Blacks via higher physical prowess, but examination of sources decries this.
In his 2018 book Hate Crime Hoax, Historically Black, Northpoint-servicing Kentucky State Political Science Professor Wilfred Reilly directs readers to higher illiteracy rates for Whites than their Black peers. He points to US Census details including Whites being third in the US for personal wealth and success, ergo White Privilege is a misnomer. This gainfully employed African-American sites the rampant success of Nigerian and Egyptian immigrants taking advantage of programs designed for US African derived natives, challenging the notion that Nubian complexion deters class mobility (Reilly, 2020). The image is a collage, not a monochromatic painting.
It could be concluded I am of the set described in the opener as I have crafted several essays and articles on the matter for my personal website (BatmamaAndRobbers.com). Two wellsprings provide this circumstance. First would be the Historically Black College, Simmons, I am pursuing a Sociology degree from. From my Associate's I achieved Valedictorian status without mention at the service. Two African Americans, one spoke, the other lauded for minutes, received acknowledgement. I had a guest drive two hours to witness my snubbing to our mutual astonishment. I'm a minority, I will mention being queer. I have never been a "card" player, barely ever suffering discrimination despite being out for forty years. Empowerment is my value, and I loathe self-victimization.
Second, I am an inmate. I live in a diversity bio-spherical social experiment the likes of which Afrocentrics and White Armchair Activists likely would find alien. I sleep beside, have regular coffee and counsel with a Black Muslim legal aide whose own professional correspondence he trusts me to write. Mutual respect is intrinsic to our relationship. I do not have a token Black friend but loving support and friendships from our community of color. I am also proudly immersed in my White family on this yard.
Astride me too are the quarters of an Appalachian who sold methamphetamine to feed his kids. We have Caucasian kinship unashamedly like Black and Hispanic populations. No reason for remorse as it works unlike the disturbingly dysfunctional non-progressive values of Politically Correct America. We have friends of all types including sex offenders content of daily character, interests, longevity, and sometimes political systems draft relationships.
I have a loving and supportive partner who two years prior was a gang affiliated Nazi that now walks our yard beside me demonstrating his devotion to the amazement of those knowing him "when". Growth does not occur in echo chambers and vacuums, but in societies where freedom of thought and expression are encouraged and genuine satisfaction can be achieved.
What I have learned from the melded experiences of Simmons and Northpoint is the truth of segregation. I believe Brown vs. BOE was erroneous. Zora Neale Hurston and the 1940s - '50s Black Conservatives were likely correct in the isolationist credo, wanting to keep community money to itself, Black education in its own environment, and I truly believe the lost and mourned African identity would not have been lost to the majority.
In our house, inmates in the dorms are most content when their families live in clusters. Both vastest bodies agree without indictment of either. Blacks enjoy living with their own comfortably as do Whites through norms, and this should not be a matter of apology. When Internal Affairs committed "Racial Balancing" the flow got disrupted. We both and all hate this meddlesome practice. On our bullpens, its typical to see mixed groups enjoying each other in sports, conversation, games, and exercise. We live uninhibited diversity lacking pretense.
The Clark doll experiment was a gaffe, also. The toys were representative I'm certain of Whites and Blacks with disproportionate desirability. The bottom line being that childrens emotions should never dictate broad-scale policy with such repercussions. Conclaves like Little Italy, Chinatown, and such could have found analogy for Blacks rather than ghettos built by greedy politicos seeking to exploit them in a system of poverty with a pittance to support an unlimited number of fatherless children. Far too many studies show the efficacy of the at-home Black dad, and the success of that nuclear family. The need to ensure their vote and allegiance, also done to impoverished Whites whose illegitimacy rates have escalated as well, has incubated class struggle. Poverty is the issue, and it is colorblind.
Sociology - "the study and classification of human societies" - edovo app dictionary. I entered this program to become a Sociologist and am three years in weathering fatigue. I have a semester ahead of two classes discussing Black America as I have in so many courses now. I would love to learn more about the overly tolerant behaviors of Holland, the executions of Muslims in China, why Europeans view leftovers as inedible garbage and Americans vulgar for eating it, but we're in this victimization holding pattern. The other HBCU whose curriculum I have examined offers a robust and hearty education for the world beyond the gate.
Transparently, I aim to educate inmates one day with a Journalism Master's. I find it unhealthy and disturbing to tell a convict that colonialism might make them inculpable for their situation, prisons are obsolete mechanisms that support systemic racism (particularly when its providing them with a gratis education with generous free time to explore it), divide many from the first genuine White associates they have had, and one essay suggesting stealing from White businesses is acceptable as Slavery Reparations. This, to me, is irresponsibly myopic given our demographics. Large migrations from Simmons to Kentucky State confers that convicts might be wiser than such and looking for new venues in their lives rather than excuses.
Classes examining the great successes Africans brought to the Western world in myriad fields after they were shamefully bartered for tobacco and spices showing Americas gain and the Dark Continent's loss would empower these disenfranchised Human Paychecks instead of arousing disinterest. I suggested this view to an inmate of color attending but not enjoying this endeavor who had never considered the joys he experienced from the ancestral bonds of slavery. The truth is none of us would including me - not half my friends, the music, food, and cultural elements that illuminate my world. I told him I adore cultural appropriation. America is our bond, and we share our bounties. He looked into my eyes, smiled, and said "Batman (my yard name) when you gonna teach at Simmons College?" I should be available by 2031.
