Inmate Tortured/Assaulted

June 9th, 2026

Saturday night hearing screams behind a doorway to mystery a young man I made nachos both with and for six hours earlier was almost killed.

Approximately 12:10 noise erupted behind the opening to the ten-man addition off our main drag from the wing. Into visibility was a plastic stool hitting the floor. Voices of variable volume and metallic thumping overtook the strip of bunk-beds and everyone laying down removed their ear-buds and headphones. Side-bunkies Conkwright, Hoagie, and I shared stares, commentary, and confusion while chaos mounted. When a dip in the noise occurred a party nearby unwisely ran in.

From my mat, dread overwhelmed me, imagining who bellowed in horrifying agony. I pictured multiple occupants of that room. Smiley lived in our front space, so I failed to register his empty rack. Our clueless traveler told us he was the noisemaker. Horrified, we imagined the worst with the time elapsing since the screaming stopped. Now all us helpless hostages could do was wait. Young offender "Rob" emerged from the annex removing his bloody T-shirt. Right hand reduced to a claw, into the bathroom he went to scrub off.

Roughly twenty minutes later our officer for the overnight came through. A port at the ten-man's far end requires a tap from a provided wand to prove his visit. Relief took me, with a twinge of anxiety. This involved a change of affairs. Walking into that bloody crime scene meant a call to action. Whatever we faced might save Smiley's dwindling life. Imagine the response when the official exited the room, hung a right then exited stage left back door without pausing.

A brief eternity measuring at least 20 minutes later, the same guard with a partner came counting. Moments into the back count both staffers summoned backup and our lights got tricked. Continuing this evolving nightmare bodies woke from their beds to feet, and everybody watched while cops and a nurse rushed in. Margarita, whom I have said several times please be there if my life's at stake, urged a 911 call. Hearing from our space she urged Smiley not to try moving she was trying to help with an ambulance coming. Cautious relief crept into me, and warmth trickled over the frost biting into my bones, prompting a sweatshirt despite the evenings mugginess.

Recounts were done. Ten-man tenants ushered out to the common space, and from there the cuffing began. First the occupant of the rack the body was found in, and later his bunky and Cleveland. Rob left with visible confidence next. After a search, Al was located. Optimistically glowing, he seemed satisfied with the near hour of abuse and torture dealt to Smiley.

At 2:23 the wing was led to Chow Hall B where we sat until 3:45. Next came the gym where we remained until 9:30 AM. Mats arrived to sleep on around 5, along with breakfast trays shortly after.

Prompting Al's response was a ridiculous preemptive strike by Smiley. Especially because the responsible adult who gets paid to insure the safety of other folks kids here didn't. Smiley talked about seeing his mama and kids soon. A lovely sister will be broken to know her kids might never do holidays with Uncle Rob.

That C.O. walked through an active scene. He caroused with an inmate having blood beside their feet. Also it was on the floor, sheets, walls, windows, and lockers. An extra body denoted a problem the female guard astride him round two immediately noticed. He tried to shrug it off, but luckily this lady was diligent. Had she worked downstairs rather than up-, Smiley could be in a better situation than unresponsive on life support. That negligent 10-15 minutes could have counted.

Instead everything's a shambles. This is the worst thing to happen in my eleven years at Northpoint. We're devastated, shell-shocked, and haunted. NPTC is not supposed to be that prison. Sometimes horrible things happen quite naturally, but they can be stopped when somebody cares enough to.

UPDATE: As of Tuesday, June 9 at 4:30 a staff representative says Mr. Thomas is off support and breathing unassisted.
