Mixtape-material shopping is my A#1 prisoner retail therapy. Blowing bags of booty keeping mine moving through workouts, psyche escapes, and breakdowns the soundtrack is critical to my survival along with blogging (hi!) and comic books. Transportation is key to living here.
Perusing the stacks with my fingertips I find the damnedest things, like last week's Screamin' Jay Hawkins anthem "Same Damn Thing" for instance I'd have never snatched off :20 sample seconds outside that click, unearthing daily-mandatory gold (check it on #36 - "One Thankful Moffuggah" Chapter 2). So much treasure with this pastime, so much pleasure anytime. Tunes are our top investment here because they last beyond one sitting and cant get stolen.
Putting in my rigors on a random search a familiar name from my three decades in Lexington KY. Laura Bell Bundy, child actress, "Derbytante", and all-around girlebrity for a spell with Jumanji, Broadway "Legally Blonde" plus soap work natch on a lush record cover with retro furniture I'd bet outta Street Scene, town staple for a hot minute or mayhap not. Behind Ultimate Firewall, I hazard guesses and frequently hit surprises you gentle folk know intrinsically. Never ate hush puppy-coated nothin', seen Beiber buck-naked (I take meds specifically to cope with this), watched Moon Knight or Peacemaker, had that Starbucks cold drank with the cryo juice, or knew about home-girl's 2022 "Achin' and Shakin'" release I snatched "Cigarette" off. Speaking to me as my last lung-snack was 5 AM July 5, 2015 and I was known as the Lord's smokestack prior.
Verdict? Not bad, Bundy. Lexington and music are interwoven to me like Northpoint Training Center is with the same only no external speakers anymore since joy got banned, reward for not stabbing or beating each other with locks on the reg. Maybe it'll come back so we can have pizzas and crafts on our shelves. Hope springs eternal I s'pose. DJing was highlight of Lex life with two years behind the mic and tables for "Girls In the Garage", my lady-music showcase when a track an hour was the commercial limit. There I learned about everything from kd lang to the Runaways, Loretta Lynn to Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald to Patti Smith.
